Paper Collage
This body of work was inspired by the remnant of a firecracker I found on a beach. Most of the decorative wrapping was gone and the paper tubing inside was charred and flat. I loved the look of it; old, weathered and completely spent.
I want to tap into our individual and collective memories by concentrating on a visual chronicle of popular culture using magazines, books, board games and ephemera, from the early 20th Century. The work is meant to evoke feelings of nostalgia, joy and curiosity.
These art pieces celebrate the tones, textures and stories of our past. The paper is archival, the three-dimensional aspect of the collages gives them an added energy and depth.
